Chapter 26 Edric lowers his sword to shield his eyes. Cyrus’s lips part and a range of emotions flits on his face—fear, relief, confusion. He’s the only one in the crowd who doesn’t shy away from the light. He sees me. I throw my arms in the air, commanding the roots from nearby trees to wrap around Cy and Edric, pulling them away from each other like misbehaving children. An unintentional smirk lifts the corner of my lips as deep satisfaction washes over. Their surprised faces are priceless. I command the earth as a conductor would an orchestra. Raising a hand, the ground shakes violently. I slam it down, and the warriors sink in knee deep, trapped in the earth. The shouts and jeers die down, and I sense their confusion and shock.
