The Lie

CHAPTER 4 July 1st

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” Landon and Alice yelled excitedly, saying it loudly enough to wake her up. She woke up and smiled immediately. Landon and Alice were both holding a cake. Alice on one side and Landon on the other. On the cake there was writing and it read, “Happy Birthday, Navy”. She had the biggest smile on her face.

“How did you do this? I thought that we couldn’t leave. Where did you get a cake?” Navy asked confused and happy at the same time. Landon and Alice looked at each other the back at Navy.

“We have our ways.” They said.

“Hey, look, I am sorry that you can’t be with your family today.” said Alice.

“I am.” Navy replied. “I am with my sister and brother.” They all smiled and then ate cake. When they finished Navy asked the question again.

“So, it’s my birthday.” she hesitated. “Can I know what you are going to do now?” Navy asked, even though she wasn’t sure she wanted to know anymore. She knew that she wasn’t going to like it. Alice and Landon's faces grew sad and their smiles disappeared.

“Well, there are two options... “ Alice said hesitantly.

“What are they?” Navy said worried and scared.

“We use you as a pawn, and I really can’t do that to you.” Alice replied.

“What’s the other one?” Navy asked.

“I die…” Alice replied. Landon just looked down and Alice looked at Navy. Navy’s eyes got big and she looked at Alice in terror, she how no idea what to say. There was a silence that lasted for hours until Alice broke it. 

“It’s getting really late, we should probably get some rest. Tomorrow's going to be a rough day.”

Alice and Landon fell asleep quickly, but Navy just laid there staring at the ceiling thinking to herself.  Alice can’t die, she just can’t… She slowly let sleep overtake her.
