chapter 10

1213 Words

Lena's POV Snow whipped against my face so hard it burned. The wind howled, screaming through the trees and pushing against my body. My boots sank deep into the snow, making it hard to move, but Jax stayed close, one hand gripping mine, never letting go. “Don’t stop,” he shouted over the wind. “No matter what you hear, no matter what you feel, you keep moving.” I nodded, even though fear clogged my throat. My heart pounded so hard it felt like it might break my ribs. Every shadow between the trees looked like a hunter waiting to grab me. Every sound made me flinch. Damien led the way, cutting through the forest like he knew it by heart. He moved fast, confident, never hesitating. Jax stayed slightly behind him, positioning his body so he was always between me and the dark behind us.
