458 Words
Lily waits hiding next to the house's side wall. She hears her sister saying : - I did everything as you said and still didn't work! Why shoud it work now? The woman mumbled something Lily couldn't phatom. - It's not like it's getting any easier Miss Haven, I can't keep it from him much longer- This time she could hear, Giulia was getting on that lady's nerves: - I have told you before, it's already done, you just need to stick around him for it to work! If you keep appearing and disappearing he is going to notice before it works and then it wont have any effect and I will not help you anymore. Is that what you want? - Giulia shoke her head in a silent protest with a face that her sister had never seen: resignment. She was not the one to shut up to anything. Lily never felt so much admiration for a woman in my life: that woman had put my sister in her place in a way that no one one the family could even dream of. After Giulia entered the house Lily decides to follow the woman, to see if she was a neighbour or what was the deal. The lady didn't enter any car so she probably lived near by, as the closest bus or train stop was at least 30 minutes from their homestead. She sees Miss Haven turning on the street that has only two houses so she wait in the beggining of the street and see her entering the one that is furthest from her. After that she thinks to go to her door for a while. She remembers that her grandma would be home any minute and that she still didn't have lunch. But the curiosity got the best of her and she gets closer to the frontyard. It's fenced, and the gate was closed, with an intercom and a sign " beware of the dog" on top. She looks around serching for a dog: "I could climb in" She starts hesitating to ring the bell and when she is about to do it, she freezes: Miss Haven is looking right at her, with that same calm expression that Lily understands as her trademark face. She tries to say something but it's like her stomach is in her mouth, the presente of the woman is almost like she knew what Lily was thinking or something, she felt the eye of God on her. She opended her mouth still without knowing what to say and Miss Haven interrupted her: -Well, come in, I don't have any milk, but any nosy cats are welcome here - she said with an amused expression but not smiling nor mad.
