12-Blind dates

1015 Words
Diane groaned, covering her face with her duvet and tossing for the hundredth time. Her mind wandered. Yes, she had walked out on Michael with her head up on her shoulders. Yes, she was a Deveraux who could do anything she wanted. She could admit she was happy. But she hated, hated the fact that Michael seemed happy and paraded Tiffany like a trophy. Last night she had caught herself wondering whether Tiffany did have Michael's child. There was no proof, there was no headline, there was no gossip. And as well as she knew Michael, she knew he wasn't the type to hide his child. Something did feel fishy. But that was not all, she wanted to start her revenge on him. The sweet revenge she had hoped to do the moment Stella had met her at her hospital bed after the accident. She wanted to see Michael's eyes full of pain, wanted him to feel the exact same emotions she had felt that very day. She wanted to see him uncomfortable for once. She wanted him to suffer. "Uhhhhh!!" Ryan, who had just walked into Diane's room, placed a hand over his shoulder, genuinely frightened at the sound he had just heard. "For a second, I thought a wolf crawled in here, Jesus Christ, Ma'am." Diane sat up, throwing the Duvet away from her. Her hair was flying all over, her mouth pursed and her arms crossed together as she glared at Ryan. Ryan took a huge breath and averted his eyes away from her, clearing his throat uncomfortably. "It seems like you're cussing me out in your head, young lady. And your eyes are shooting invisible thunderbolts at me." "Fix the blind dates, and I'd get to choose who I date." "What?!" Ryan hurried over to where Diane was and plopped down on the bed beside her. He felt her forehead with the back of his palm and then her neck, a line of worry appearing on his forehead. "Ma'am, are you alright? Are you fine? Are you serious? What got into you? What-" Diane scrunched up her nose, flapping his hand away with her palm. "Don't be so dramatic. I'm just really open to dating now." Ryan squinted his eyes at her. "I'm serious." Ryan folded his hands, squinting harder. "Is this about Mr Belmont?" "What?" Diane laughed, getting up from the bed and heading over to her dresser. "What? No, of course not." He nodded, not believing her, "Of course not. It isn't." Diane settled on her white dresser chair, pulling her robe, which had little lace flower designs at the hems, across her chest and knotted the ribbon." "Just set up the dates, wouldn't mind going on three in a day, yunno? The more the merrier, right?" Ryan could not believe his ears, listening to what Diane was saying. She was the same person who could go as far as faking illnesses and probably even her death if that was permitted, in order to get out of going on blind dates. But here she was, casually suggesting it to him like it was a norm. Who knew that it only took seeing Mr Belmont again to make her want to go? Maybe he should have schemed it early. Not like he was on Belmont's side, but he was tired of seeing Diane act like she was closed off to love. And just wanted her to be romantically happy. "Mrs Deveraux would be so happy to hear this," He cheered, clasping his hands together and standing up. "I cannot wait to tell her." "No, no no AND no," Diane shushed. "You're not telling mum about this. Just... Just do it yourself, okay?" Ryan sighed, "Okay, Ma'am. If that's what you want, then." "Pinky promise?" "Sure, sure." He replied dismissively. Of course he was going to tell Mrs Deveraux. Who was he kidding? Pinky promise meant nothing to him. "Thanks! Now let's get this party started!" * * * The restaurant ambience was lovely, classical music playing softly, adding to the serene atmosphere. It was the type of well-lit, high-end three-Michelin-star restaurant whose food spoke art and had the type of interior decor that made you experience nearly what heaven would look like. Diane buried her face in her hands and screamed silently into them. Why in the world had she agreed to these dates when she could have just sort of picked out a random dude from the list and agreed to go out with him. She shook her head as she glanced at her phone, then proceeded to sip from her latte. It was only 2:30pm, and she had been here since noon, but somehow she had dismissed three dates already and was on the verge of packing up, drinking up her remaining latte and simply going home. For it was one thing for a man to be rich, and it was another thing for him to have a personality that didn't make you feel like slapping him across the face each time he spoke. Diane couldn't figure out why men were such a chore to keep around and almost difficult to like. Her first date had been a stuck-up actor and model, the second owned an investment company but had suggested they keep their relationship 'open' since he was the 'man of the people', whatever that trash meant, while the third was just rich and boring. After the three of them had left, she had started to consider how her life would have been if only she was kind of attracted to women. Maybe things would have been easier? Maybe simpler? The next person wasn't going to be here until 3pm. What in heaven's name was she going to be doing until then? "Diane?" Her head c****d up immediately, and her eyes rested on the man standing in front of her. Her eyebrows furrowed together, and she frowned at him. She wasn't expecting him to be here, and she wondered who had even told her she was going to be here. "Ethan Belmont. What are you doing here?"
