Marcus's POV
Sandra dropped the folder on my desk without comment, which was how I knew, before I'd even opened it, that she'd already read whatever was inside and had decided it wasn't her place to editorialize.
"Friday's board materials," she said. "Advance copies for anyone presenting or attending. You're on the distribution list as CEO."
I almost set it aside unread. Quarterly reviews generated an avalanche of decks every month, most of them destined to be skimmed for thirty seconds before I moved on to whatever actually required my attention. But something in the way Sandra lingered at the door a beat too long made me reach for it instead.
