Chapter Twelve If she reached up, Jules swore she could touch the stars. She was flying high. Luckily, she was strapped in with a seat belt. The Ferris wheel rose her and David up higher and higher until the world below appeared small as a puzzle board whose pieces she no longer cared to fit in each space. She was beyond that, above it, making a new picture, playing a new game. Her heart raced with her feet having left the ground. Her palms were slick with anticipation. Her breaths came in short pants. Beside her, David still held her hand. Jules had never felt so exhilarated before. She was wide awake but felt like she was moving through a dream.
