CHAPTER FOURTEEN JUNE 8, 9:30 AM ARIZONA REPUBLIC NEWSPAPER It’s morning, and with my second cup of coffee from across the street in hand, I hit the newspaper room and my desk. There are a couple of calls to return and a few new leads to follow. Another murder on the south side, but the cops have arrested a Mexican kid, Randy Gonzales, who claims he was home with his mother all evening. I will follow up on this as the mothers are usually so scared of their sons that they will say anything to keep peace at home. Out of love or fright, they lie for their delinquent children, perpetuating the crime on the streets of south Phoenix.
