"Hi Emma" Grace called as she approached her, smiling so brightly and warmly.
"Hi Grace I'm alright, you don't need to ask" She responded stretching her hands to receive the usual warm embrace.
They had grown to be fond of each other, not only had Grace become a best friend to her, she had also become a helper and a guardian. In spite of Emma's depression and anxiety which most time becomes toxic for Grace, she continued to stand by her, to give comfort and to love.
Since the accident, even as a child she fought for Emma and now in high school the bond continued.
"I wil never find geography interesting, that class bores me to stupor" Grace said as she pushed Emma to the refectory.
"Yeah, that's cause you've been traveling pretty good, I'm enjoying it, it's uh a short cut for me to explore the world... Oh Shoot" She exclaimed, quickly she bent her head and pretended to be searching for something in her backpack.
A group of boys passed by not noticing the two. Grace immediately paused when she looked back and they have gotten far, with a very funny expression, lifting up her nose she stared at Emma who was still busy going through her backpack.
"They are gone" Emma slowly lifted her head shyly. "Start talking" Says Grace.
"Uh.. It's nothing...it's uh...uh...just uh." She stammered scratching her head in search of a perfect lie to the reason of her action on sighting the boys.
"Are you crushing on Lawrence?" Grace asked raising an eye brow.
"Guhh" Emma Scoffed "Nah, I'm not actually uh crushing, I'm just admiring you know that's all" She replied feeling a little ashamed because she knew that tho he is not coolest guy but he was so cute and wanted by many, including the hottest girls. What chance have she? A crippled disabled girl, who couldn't even carry out little works by herself.
"I know, I know it's not possible, I know I'm not to be loved and there's no chance for me, I know Grace but that doesn't mean I can't admire someone or whatever, please take me back to the class, I don't have an appetite anymore" her voice so cracked, so shallow, she was trying so hard not to tear up.
The best Grace could do was to keep quite, saying anything further could cause more damage to Emma's emotions, even tho her question was merely a question and nothing more, she felt bad she had to ask at all or maybe her expression sent a wrong message.
"Do you need a Coke at least?, I could go grab that" She asked as she sets Emma to her seat.
"Nah I'm good, just leave me alone ".
******************************************
What happened ruined Emma's day, she paid less attention to the remaining class and hoped desperately for school to be over so she could go home.
At last it did, before Grace could stand to help her out to the school bus, she wheeled herself out without saying a word to her.
"Mum!, Mum!" She called out as she bangs on her room door but got no reply.
She kept knocking.
Gina angrily stepped out of the room, wrecking of alcohol, Emma quickly wheeled back.
"What?"
"I'm hungry"
"Then go get food for yourself" She said and turned to go back into the room.
"I don't have cash and the store is very far, I can't wheel there, plus it's raining"
Angrily, like she was bitten on the wildest part.
"Then go get yourself a nanny!, do I look like a f*****g nanny, want me to go get an apron and a cap huh!, you paying me for them services!!!!!" She yelled out, right into her face.
"I didn't make you crippled, this is not my life!"
She banged the door on her face.
Devastated, burned, she had no will to speak nor scream. Slowly she turned and wheeled to her room, drenching her pillow in tears.
Waking up the next morning. She was gone leaving a note.
"I will see you soon. I can't anymore Emma"
