Orions POV
The morning light filtered through the dense canopy of trees, casting dappled shadows on the ground as I made my way to the center of the camp. The crisp air was filled with the sounds of the pack going about their daily routines. It was a scene of organized chaos, and usually, it brought me a sense of satisfaction.
Today, however, a sense of dread gnawed at the back of my mind. I had received the summons late last night, the message delivered by a swift and silent courier. The Council Meeting, held once every decade, was now upon them, and attendance was not a matter of debate for all Alphas. It was an event I never looked forward to. And to make matters worse , this year it was held at Bloodmoon pack. Orion had never crossed paths with the Alpha of the bloodmoon pack Kael, but he had heard stories of the cruel man as it was known that he was driven by an insatiable thirst for power and dominance, and seeks to expand his territory and solidify his rule over all werewolf packs.
Kael had never outwardly tried anything intimidating towards my pack, so I never bothered myself with his actions.
“Pierre,”I called out as I entered the main gathering area. My beta appeared almost instantly, as if he had been anticipating the call.
“Yes, Alpha?” Pierre’s voice was calm.
“We need to prepare for the Council Meeting. It’s in three days,” I stated, the weight of the words heavy in the air.
Pierre’s expression hardened. “I understand. I will inform the pack and make arrangements for our departure.”
I nodded, my mind already racing with thoughts of the impending gathering. The Council Meetings were a necessary evil, a time for the leaders of the various packs to come together to discuss matters of importance, resolve disputes, and maintain the balance of power. But it also meant facing old enemies, rivals who would be all too eager to see him falter.
The next three days were a whirlwind of activity. The pack buzzed with preparations as I, Pierre, and a small contingent readied ourselves for the journey. Supplies were gathered, strategies discussed, and final instructions given to those remaining behind.
On the morning of our departure, the pack gathered to see us off. I stood before them, my gaze sweeping over the faces of my people.
I took a deep breath and felt the familiar surge of power as I shifted into my wolf form. Zain my wolf, finally happy to be in control, shook his black fur, I could feel his sharpened senses, and internally rolled my eyes as he growled. “Let me out often Orion, it’s what normal werewolves do”. “I’ll do just that when you learn to control yourself”. I sensed a chuckle from him and grinned as well. We glanced at Pierre and the others, who had also shifted, and nodded. With a powerful leap, we led the way out of our territory and into the dense forest.
The journey was arduous, the landscape changing from dense forests to rocky hills and open plains. We moved swiftly and silently, our paws barely making a sound on the forest floor. I relished the freedom and raw power of my wolf form. “it’s always better when I’m in charge, but you never concede”, Zain said. “Good thing you know that“ I retorted. “you sound unusually happy today “ I added. He said nothing to that and I let it go.
After hours of relentless running, we reached the territory of the Bloodmoon Pack, where the Council Meeting was to be held. The ancient meeting grounds were a sprawling clearing surrounded by towering trees, the air thick with the scent of countless wolves who had gathered there over the centuries.
I shifted back to my human form, my clothes reforming around me as I stood tall and resolute. The other Alphas were already arriving, each accompanied by their own contingents. The air was thick with anticipation and unspoken rivalries.
I scanned the gathering, my eyes landing on the imposing figure of Alpha Marcus from the Western Pack. Marcus was a long-time rival, their packs having clashed on more than one occasion. He stood surrounded by his warriors, his eyes narrowing as they met Orion’s.
“Orion,” Marcus greeted, his tone dripping with barely concealed hostility.
“Marcus,” I replied evenly. “I see you’ve brought your usual entourage.”
Marcus smirked. “One can never be too careful.”
I ignored the bait, turning my attention to Alpha Helena of the seastorm Pack. She was a stern woman, known for her strict adherence to tradition. “Helena,” I greeted with a respectful nod.
“Orion,” she responded, her expression neutral. “I trust your journey was uneventful?”
“It was,” I replied. “Let’s hope this meeting is as well.”
As the time for the meeting approached, a deep, resonant bell rang out, calling the Alphas to assemble. I made my way to the pavilion, Pierre and a few select warriors at my side. The other Alphas followed suit, each taking their place within the circle.
The Elder, Cain, a venerable figure who presided over these meetings, stood at the center. His presence commanded respect, his wisdom unquestioned. He raised his hands, and the murmurs of conversation ceased.
“Welcome, Alphas,” the Elder began, his voice carrying effortlessly across the gathering. “We come together once more to discuss matters of great importance, to ensure the stability and prosperity of all our packs.”
There was a moment of solemn silence before the Elder continued. “As is tradition, the hosting pack will begin with the first presentation.”
Alpha Kael of the Bloodmoon Pack stepped forward. He was a formidable figure, his presence exuding confidence. “Thank you, Elder,” he began. “We are honored to host this year’s Council Meeting. Our pack has faced little to no challenges. The bloodmoon pack as always, remains one of the strongest. Only a fool would try to make a ruckus. With a cruel smile he sat down, clearly leaving the threat hanging in the air.
The discussion that followed was intense. Alphas offered suggestions, debated strategies, and shared their own experiences. It was a testament to the collective wisdom and strength of the packs, despite their differences.
When it was my turn, I stood tall, my voice steady and commanding. “My pack has faced increased rogue activity near our southern border. While we have managed the immediate threat, I propose a coordinated effort to monitor and manage rogue movements across all territories. This would ensure our collective safety and prevent larger conflicts.”
Alpha Marcus, ever the antagonist, was quick to respond. “Orion, while your proposal has merit, I question whether all packs are willing to allocate resources for such an endeavor. Each of us has our own challenges to manage.”
I met Marcus’s gaze evenly.“I understand the strain on resources, Marcus. But a coordinated effort could prevent larger conflicts and protect all our borders. It’s a proactive measure.”
Alpha Helena spoke up in support. “I agree with Orion. A collective approach to managing rogues could benefit us all. It would also strengthen the bonds between our packs.”
The Elder called for a vote, and a majority of hands were raised in favor. “The motion is passed,” he announced. “We will establish a council to oversee the coordination of rogue management. Each pack will contribute resources and personnel as deemed appropriate.”
With that issue resolved, the meeting continued. There were discussions on resource management, inter-pack trade, and the establishment of new training programs for young warriors. Throughout it all, I remained vigilant, aware of the subtle power plays and shifting alliances around him. There was a sense of deep anxiety, but I had no time to focus on it.
As the formal discussions drew to a close, the atmosphere shifted to one of celebration. The Alphas and their packs moved to the dining area, where a grand feast awaited. The air was filled with laughter and the clinking of glasses as old friends reunited, and new alliances were forged.
I was slowly beginning to ease a bit when my nose caught a whiff of the most intense scent ever, it made my body twist with apprehension. I couldn’t place where the scent was coming from . I chose to ignore it
Zain was restless, pushing to be let out.
It was getting irritating, so I shut him out completely.
He was still pushing at the back of my mind when suddenly I heard kaels voice
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you one of my favorite toys “
As soon as I turned around, my eyes turned yellow at the sight in front of me and I let out a loud growl.
