The forest closed in around us as dusk settled, wrapping every tree, every leaf, in shadows. Even Phoenix was quiet, his usual upbeat comments swallowed up by the worry that weighed on us all. Aurora had been gone too long. And though we’d all agreed she needed this time away from the pack, to sort through her thoughts and come to terms with her powers, it had now been days since her last communication.
