Chapter 1

532 Words
16 was when my life officially started. Literally. And no I was not sick or anything like that. It was just the way my parents wanted it to be. Okay that's a lie. I don't know if it would've ever started if I hadn't asked. Instead of starting in grade one it  started in grade ten and so the story begins... I've been home schooled almost all my life so I've never experienced the joy of having class with other children. My parents, who are professors, decided I didn't need that experience. Something about distractions and not reaching my full potential was their reason. How wrong is that? They didn't even give me the opportunity to mess up.  Anyways when I was younger, about eleven years old, I asked my parents if I could go to school once I was sixteen years old. Shockingly they agreed. Something about letting me live a little. Finally that year has come. The most exciting part was that I'd be going to the same school as my best friend. I know what you are thinking but yes I have a best friend. Her name is Ay short for Amanda. She's basically a best friend by default but that didn't make me love her any less. Why a default you ask? Well her parents have been friends with my parents for the longest time. I'm sure you can take a guess on how the rest of that story goes.  It was the weekend before my first day of school. Ay wanted to celebrate by taking me to the mall. Something about me never going out was her reason. After taking a bath, I mean shower. Why did I correct myself because I personally feel like bathing is like cleaning yourself in your own dirt. Although I do enjoy a good soak in warm water and bubbles. Anyways back to picking an outfit. I must say picking an outfit is one of the most frustrating things in the world. I would pick outfit number one then take it off. Put on outfit number two then take that off. It carries on like that for what feels like forever. I ended up with outfit number one which was a black polo neck top, denim jeans and jacket with black sneakers. Stylish right.  Since I don't have a car or even know how to drive I walked over to Ay's. Thankfully her house is not a long walk from mine. Maybe about six houses away. When I arrived at her house I rang the doorbell. When I heard footsteps I moved back a little.  "Oh Brenda! What a lovely surprise so early on a Saturday morning." Ay's mom said obviously not happy to see me. "Hi Mrs Jones. It's almost three o'clock in the afternoon."  "What! Almost three. Damn it we're late." She said mostly to herself "Late for?" I asked in an attempt to remind her I was there. She was still standing in the doorway blocking my way in. "An anniversary party that starts at half past three." "Oh. Well I'm sorry to disturb you but is Ay home?" "Right Ay." She then shouted "Amanda Brenda is here for you!" That's when she finally made passage for me to go in.
