"What are you waiting for. Let's go in!" She said pushing me excitedly. I took her hand because I didn't want to get lost. Imagine that. Lost girl on her first day at school. I started to realise that I was the new girl. Didn't the new girls always get picked on or something. They were always lonely and didn't have friends until they had a makeover. I know I wasn't getting that. Luckily for me though I was walking into the school with a friend already. So I guess I don't need to make friends right? Out of nowhere we heard a girl screaming Ay's name. Ay let go of my hand and started running towards someone. Did she seriously leave me to stand alone in an environment I was not used to? Was Ay still gonna be my best friend here at school? Maybe I'm just over thinking it.  A few people that walked past greeted me, others just looked at me funny. Like damn had they never seen a new face before. Maybe that's just how schools kids are. Ay was walking back towards me with someone whom I presume was the girl who was screaming her name.  "Hiiii." She said as she hugged me. "You must be Bree. Ay talks about you a lot." Ay walked away and left me with a stranger. Was this how it was going to be from now on? "Heyy." I said as i tried to match her excitement. "And I'm guessing you are Lilitha." "Yup. That's me. How'd you know?" "Well Ay talks about you too." I said as I gave her a sweet smile. I was lying by the way. I had never heard of her before. I was just glad I had pronounced her name right. It was written on her tie. I knew I loved that tie when I first saw it. I knew then the reason why. "So today is literally your first day here. How exciting. It's like you're in grade 1. No even worse pre-school." She said. I didn't really know if I liked Lilitha much. Are you supposed to like everyone you meet? "Yup. Everything is new to me." "Soooo. Do you see anything you like yet?" "Yeah! I like the uniform," I said looking at my own, "the school gate, and..." "No, no, no. I meant anything as in boys?" She said rudely interrupting me. "Well not really. I haven't gotten the chance to look at anyone yet." "Just wait untill you see the rugby team. You will see them without even wanting to look." She said giggling. "And luckily for you they are hosting the introductory system." The what...!? "What's the introductory system?" "Oh. It's like initiation. You know how the grade eights go through initiation to welcome them into the school. Well this is similar for any new comers. It's to make everything fair. It also introduces you to the school." "I just hope its not embarrassing." "I'll be the first to crush this hope because it is. But don't worry in the end its really nice." "So the whole team will be introducing me?" I asked confused.  "No just one person from the team." "Okay. So when do I find out who is introducing me?"  "When we go to the main hall for assembly. By the way you are not allowed to wear your blazer yet." I quickly took off my blazer not wanting to get into trouble. Then the school bell rang. "Where's Ay?" I said noticing that she still hadn't come back.  "Don't worry. She'll find us in the hall." "Okay." I said feeling uncomfortable.                                                                                     ♧ "Good morning Alvinore High." The school greeted back. It was easy to assume that she was the principal. "As some of you may know the holidays are over and we are back to school. First day, as a tradition here at Alvinore High, we have to introduce the new comers to the school who aren't in grade eight. This year it is the Rugby team's turn to host the introductory system." She paused while the school erupted into a roar. "The under 15 team will introduce the grade nines and the under 16 team will introduce the grade tens. There will be no new trade eleven or grade twelve." The school aaahed (as if they were sad) and the principal handed the mic over the under 15 captain. He was talking but I wasn't listening. Lilitha said we'd meet Ay in the hall but still the seat we saved for her was empty.  I only started listening when they started introducing the grade tens. My grade. As the under 16 rugby boys came onto the stage many of them looked familiar. But it was probably because I had seen them walking in the school.  Just when I thought it was just a coincidence I heard the captain of the rugby team speak. "Hi everyone. I am Mike Khoza and I will be introducing Brenda Dlamini." He said into the mic for everyone to hear. "What!" I said loudly. I had obviously meant to say it in my head. All eyes were suddenly on me. I just couldn't believe Mike was in the school. I know what you're thinking. Is this girl blind or  just stupid!? I should've guessed it though. I was only starting to put two and two together. I mean where else could Ay have met them.  "Come on up." Mike said calling me to the stage. I tried to walk fast. But it was hard when you had people's stares weighing you down. When I got onto the stage he motioned for me to sit down. But I just gave him a what is going on look. But he just smiled and told me to sit on the chair. I did. I sat anxiously waiting for what was to come. "Ladies and gentlemen. This is Brenda, Bree for short." And as he said that pictures started showing on the screen behind us. It was huge. It was also showing pictures of...me! "This is her first day of school. Literally. She had been home schooled up untill now. She came to the this school for many reasons but one very important factor was her best friend Ay." Pictures of Ay and I started showing. The school cheered. Why? Don't they have best friends or something. "Bree loves music and is easy to talk to. She is friendly and loves cotton candy." I love how he added his own personal touch little introduction. "Now let's welcome her properly." He said to the crowd then to me he said "Stand up and give me your blazer." I did as he asked. He then helped me put it on. As he did this he spoke into the mic. "With this ceremony we formally welcome you to the school." The school repeated his words. It sounded creepy until they cheered for me. Again? This school really loves to make a noise. But I loved it nonetheless.
