The morning lesson dragged on, but Haruto kept his focus, diligently taking notes. He was used to this—keeping his head down, excelling quietly, and avoiding attention. Yet, despite his best efforts, he could feel the eyes of his classmates flickering toward him.
Saint Avalon Academy wasn’t a place where people like him belonged. Not truly.
During break time, Haruto remained at his desk, flipping through the syllabus. He had no intention of making friends—he just needed to survive here, graduate with the highest marks, and secure his future.
That was when he heard it.
A soft, musical voice.
“You’re the new guy, right?”
Haruto looked up.
Aoi Tsukishima stood beside his desk, tilting her head slightly, her sharp blue eyes studying him with curiosity. Up close, she was even more stunning—flawless skin, delicate features, and an air of effortless grace that made it clear why she was the most admired girl in school.
Haruto hesitated before answering. “Yeah. Haruto Kisaragi.”
Aoi leaned slightly on his desk, as if she had all the time in the world. “So, a scholarship student. You must be smart.”
“I… study a lot,” he replied carefully.
Aoi smiled faintly. “I wonder how long you’ll last.”
Haruto frowned. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
She chuckled, a soft, melodic sound. “No offense. It’s just that… this school doesn’t treat outsiders well.” She glanced around the room, where some students were already whispering, watching their interaction with interest. “I’m surprised you’re even talking to me.”
Haruto raised an eyebrow. “Should I not be?”
Aoi’s smile deepened. “Most people either try to impress me or avoid me.”
“I don’t care about impressing you,” Haruto said simply.
For a second, Aoi blinked, as if caught off guard. Then, to his surprise, she laughed. “Interesting. I’ll be watching you, Haruto.”
And with that, she turned and walked away, her long hair swaying behind her.
Haruto exhaled, shaking his head. He had only been here for a few hours, but somehow, he had already caught the attention of the most dangerous girl in school.
He had a feeling this was only the beginning.
