"You...!" I froze. "How come you’re here... suddenly..." I tried to speak up, but my voice shook. I took a step back, heart racing, barely able to steady my breath. My hands trembled as I grabbed the nearest stick and pointed it at him like it could actually do something.
"Stay away from me! I swear, if you come any closer, I’ll hit you with this!" I shouted, but even I could hear the crack in my voice. My hands weren’t steady. My chest felt tight.
Jason just stood there, hands in his pockets, wearing that smug grin like this was some sort of game to him. "Little human..." he said, his voice slow, like he was savoring the words. He moved forward—measured, calm, like a predator who already knew how this would end.
