"Rowena, how did this happen?" Adrian's voice broke through the silence. His hands gripped the wheel tightly as he drove fast, eyes flicking to the rearview mirror where Jason lay in the back seat, barely conscious.
"I... i... I " My throat felt dry. I looked at Adrian, but my words got stuck. His eyes stayed on mine, waiting.
"I was just going for a walk, okay?" I finally said, brushing my hair off my face. My hands wouldn’t stop shaking.
"Then out of nowhere this wolf came at me. Jason showed up. He tried to stop it. I didn’t know it would happen like that. He just... he got in the way. He got hurt.”
