Lysara’s POV Ronan grabbed the hilt of his sword. So fast I barely even saw him move. But the man didn’t flinch. Just slowly raised both hands, palms outward, in an amused sort of way. “I don’t want any violence tonight.” “Then you’re in the wrong alley,” Ronan said. The man smiled. “Maybe.” He looked momentarily toward the merchant house just beyond us. Back to me. No sign of fear in his face. That worried me more than a drawn sword would have. He knew who we were. He knew I’d been using a fake identity. And some how, he was completely sure that neither Ronan nor I would kill him. I wasn’t sure whether that was because he was arrogant… or well informed. I subtly shifted my weight in preparation for the fight. The man saw it. “You don’t need to be afraid.” “I’m not.”
