CHAPTER 6 : THE SILVERCLAW PACK HAS FOUND HER
The room was dimly lit, the heavy scent of herbal medicine filled the air in the room. Kieran sat on the chair by the bedside, his elbows resting on his knees, head bowed. His father, the former alpha of the Silverclaw Pack, lay pale and unmoving, his breathing shallow.
Kieran’s chest tightened as he stared at the frail man who had once been his unshakable pillar of strength. "How had it all come to this?" He clenched his fists, the weight of his regrets pressing down on him like an iron shackle.
He had failed as a mate, driving Mia to seek solace in another’s arms. He had failed as a son, burdening his father with the consequences of his choices. And as an alpha? His longing for Selena Rivers had disrupted his focus for years, eroding his ability to lead.
Yet even now, when his world was crumbling, all he could think about was her. Selena. The woman he’d let slip away. Perhaps, she was the answer to his problems. Maybe she was that one person he needed, to make things right.
The door creaked open, and the pack healer stepped inside, her face etched with concern.
“Alpha,” she said softly, drawing Kieran’s attention. “Your father’s condition is worsening. He’ll need a skilled doctor—someone experienced, not just a native healer like me.”
"Our systems have always healed using the native ways, why now? Why isn't he healing?" Kieran growled silently, trying not to wake his father and scare the healer.
"I'm sorry, Alpha. This is beyond me. He's old and his system has weakened, that's why he's not healing. He received a big shock and it's a miracle his heart didn't stop. He needs the human healthcare technology to get better" The woman said, her head hung down.
Before Kieran could respond, a weak voice croaked, “Kieran…”
He turned sharply, his heart aching as he saw his father’s eyes fluttering open.
“Father,” Kieran breathed, rushing to his side.
The older man raised a trembling hand, and Kieran grasped it gently, leaning closer.
"Father, don't speak. You have to rest well so your system can be back to normal and you can heal." Kieran said, concern written all over his face.
"Son, I'm old now and what's happened to me isn't an injury. I'm sure my body can't heal itself. Don't worry, I'll be alright"
" Father...."
“I overheard… what Mia said,” his father whispered, his voice barely audible. “About the child. About leaving.”
Kieran stiffened, his guilt swelling. "I'm sorry, Father. It's my fault for neglecting her. I have an obligation to not make my mate lonely but I failed at that. I allowed her to go, there's no need to hold on to her"
“I wanted to tell you sooner… but I didn’t know how. I found her.” His father continued.
"Found her? Who did you find when you're laying ill here? Just rest, okay?"
" Son, I wanted to make you happy, I wanted to see my 19 years old son again, the one that smiled and led the pack bravely so I went the extra mile to look for her. Turns out I didn't even need to do that. I saw her on TV. She's a healer... they said she's a famous doctor now"
Kieran froze, his breath catching. “Selena?”
His father gave a faint nod. “She’s a famous doctor now… living in the human territories, I got her location too. I know how much you’ve missed her. How much losing her… affected you.”
Kieran’s throat tightened, the admission cutting through him like a blade.
“Bring her back,” his father urged weakly. “We need her. She can help me, but more than that… she can help you.”
The room fell silent, the weight of his father’s words settling over Kieran like a heavy cloak. He had longed for Selena for years, but the idea of seeing her again filled him with equal parts of hope and dread.
After a long pause, Kieran finally spoke. “Where is she?”
His father’s lips trembled as he gave Kieran the location. “Go to her, Kieran. Don’t wait. Bring her home.”
But Kieran’s mind was already spinning. Could he truly face Selena after everything? Would she even want to see him again? Would she even come back to the pack and act like nothing happened? What if she had her own family out there?
“No,” he said at last, his voice steady. “I won’t go myself. Not yet.”
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a leather bracelet, its silver clasp glinting faintly in the dim light. It was the friendship bracelet he had made for Selena when they were younger—one both of them had worn with pride for years before they were separated, no, before he chased her away.
“She’ll recognize this,” Kieran murmured, holding it tightly. “If she sees it, she’ll know the Silverclaw Pack has found her.”
Summoning one of his trusted pack members, Kieran handed them the bracelet along with instructions. “Take this to her. Tell her we need her help. But don’t say anything else. If she refuses… don’t force her. Just return to me. Just make sure you find her, if she's not in her home, wait for her to come back or ask the people there. She's famous so one person should at least know her location when you get there. Make sure you get this bracelet to her and report back to me. Be careful.”
"Yes Alpha" The pack member bowed and left swiftly, with Selena's location and the bracelet in hand.
As the door closed behind them, Kieran sank back into the chair by his father’s bedside. His heart ached with a mixture of hope and fear. Would Selena come back to the pack? Could she still be the answer to the emptiness that had plagued him for years?
The only thing he knew for certain was that the path ahead would change everything.
