“You don’t want to hear it from me! You shouldn’t hear it from me!” Despina said in a wooden voice, with her back towards Anna. “Ask your husband about it! Wait till Eros comes back. He should be the one-”
“But where did he GO?” Anna asked, her voice turning hoarse after all the shouting she had done.
“To his Athens apartment, I suppose.....He didn’t tell me. Just got a call and then he disappeared, telling me to let you know that he had got some urgent business in the city.” Her mother-in-law still spoke in a wooden voice. It was funny really, because the woman she had thought would rejoice at such a moment was actually looking pained, as if it was hurting her too.
