Chapter 6 “I-I see....” Anna had quickly averted her face towards the window, lest he notices the tears that had gathered in her eyes. ‘She shouldn’t be hurt by this!’ ‘She shouldn’t care what this man thinks about her!’ She told herself as she watched the dark clouds thundered above, while the pelting rain continued it’s relentless pitter- patter against the footpath. ‘What does it matter, if he thinks that she had been a bad wife?’ She asked herself savagely, their marriage was over and done with. She had absolutely no right to feel this kind of hurt because of something he said. But the truth was that she did feel hurt maybe, because not very long ago she used to love this man more than life itself. “You know Eros, you are a bigot! Here, you are accusing me of being a bad wife, but you were hardly the best husband of the year!” She slung back at him, once she had sucked back the tears. “You treated me like a second class citizen in your own home, while your mother tried to control every single aspect of my life – from what I will wear, to how I will behave – everything will have to go through the queen of the house – Despina Kozakis.” “She was only trying to help you!” Eros thrust back, “You were a foreigner, unaccustomed to our rituals and customs. She just wanted to help you settle in.” Anna laughed. “Well she was only a secondary problem in our marriage, while you always took the trophy.” “What do you mean?” “As soon as we got married, you became indifferent to me! It almost looked like, you didn’t care about me anymore! We rarely spent any time together alone. And at the times that you were home – someone or the other was always hovering around. Your mother or your cousin or even that damned housekeeper!” “ You were always busy. In fact, you were so busy that you never took me on a honeymoon! And now that I think of it, you actually never took me anywhere! But locked me into that house and left. Even after living in Greece for three months all I ever saw there were the walls of that ugly mansion!” Anna realized that she was panting now, almost as if she had ran a marathon. But she didn’t look up to see what Eros’s reaction was – to all of this. She didn’t dare! But the grim silence between them told it’s own story. HE was angry and she could tell it without even looking at him. “Do What you want to, but I will never go back there as your wife Eros Kozakis!” She hissed out, with all the bitterness flowing like lava through her veins. “I agree.” His calm reply shocked Anna and she made the mistake of looking up into his eyes. They were cold and harsh, his beautifully chiselled features looked like they were carved in hard stone. “I want you back in my bed, fidaki mou.....but I have no longer any interest in keeping you as my wife. I might still want your sexy body but I won’t ever let you run rings around me, like you did last time.” “What do you mean?” It was more of a squeak that a human voice as Anna looked on aghast. “I mean that my mother was right – I should have never married you. I thought the intense passion between us meant something. But it was, ‘s*x’ pure and simple! I should have just taken you to a motel and let that passion run out, should have slept with you and then dumped you, when the attraction fizzed out. Like it always does. But like a fool, I thought what we had was special! And I married you, took you to my home – put you on a pedestal, only to have all that thrown back into my face!” “But this time it will be different!” His breath was coming out in short pants now, as he stared into Anna’s sky blue eyes. “This time, I will be doing what I should have done the first time around – I will take you as my mistress. You will remain under my roof, eat my food and warm my bed like a good little mistress does, until the time, when I feel like, I am done with you and the chemistry between us is dead!” “How dare you?!” Her eyes flashed angrily, before she finally took the initiative to get up and leave. ‘She had had heard enough of this!’ Her hands were busy picking up her purse from the table before she could make an exit, when suddenly she was pulled back with a strong pair of arms. “I am not going to sit here, listening to you spewing out insult after insult ....” “SIT BACK DOWN Fidaki mou and listen to me! SIT, if you want to keep your brother out of prison.” “You can’t be serious! You-you will really send Daniel to prison if I refuse to sleep with you? What kind of a man are you?” She wailed, her heart galloping at an unbelievable speed. “The kind who, never lets anyone get away after they had insulted him. And you did that Fidaki mou – my little snake! You insulted me in front of all of Greece, in front my family and friends by leaving me within two months of our wedding! And now it’s payback time....” “So, what it’s going to be darling? Do you think you can climb down from your moral high ground and start enjoying the sensuality of our love making once again? After all, you quite enjoyed it before, if I could recall correctly.” “Or are you willing to see Daniel in prison for the next to two three years? Depending on how successful my lawyers are, in tightening the noose around his neck.” A car was honking loudly outside, while some kind of a chaos had ensued within the cafe. A woman in pink was shouting at the back, wanting to see the manager. While the red haired waitress at her table was arguing in an equally loud voice. A few people had taken out their phones, to video tape the whole incident. But Anna didn’t care about any of that. She couldn’t! Not with what she was feeling right now – as if someone had come and ripped her heart out of her chest. She couldn’t believe that this was the same man, she had fallen in love with a year ago. That, this was the man she had married! ‘God, how can he do this to her?’ And slowly, as her legs finally gave out beneath her and her capability of endurance ended. She finally sat back down on her chair. ‘The game was over !’ Let me know in the comments of what you think of this chapter.
