The Sergeant Major absentmindedly stroked his mustache while he considered Sir James’s question. After a minute he said, "He did mention before he took to his sick bed that he saw a wolf following him and when he looked at it, he said the wolf's eyes were glowing a bright blue. He shook his head and rubbed his eyes and when he looked again, the wolf was gone. That's about all I can recall, but if I remember anything else, I'll report it to you, Sir James."

The Sergeant Major took the cue that he was dismissed and immediately rose from his seat and snapped to attention.
