They had been walking for an age, or what felt like it, as Arabella had to stop multiple times to ease the aching in her heels. She was not used to such long walks, often taking a carriage or horseback if she were to travel any distance longer than a short stroll. Lorcan had been striding ahead, looking into the black alleys that they walked past as he avidly searched for the missing boy. Arabella had stayed slightly behind, telling herself that she was keeping Emara company, when really they had been silent for most of the journey.
