Chapter 9: Looking for Loopholes

Chapter 9: Looking for Loopholes This was the fifth day since Jiang Yue Sheng had gone missing. Jiang Yu was conducting an experiment in the lab when her phone suddenly vibrated. Already somewhat on edge, she immediately opened it. It was an email notification from her mailbox app. A new email had just arrived. Not wanting to miss any potential news related to her son, she hurriedly logged into her email and opened the message. The email contained an attachment. Impatient, she opened the attachment, which turned out to be a video file. The video showed her son, bare-chested, and it seemed to have been recorded while he was showering. Seeing her son alive brought a brief moment of relief to Jiang Yu’s heart. However, she quickly realized that this was an attempt at blackmail, and she began to tremble nervously. Soon, a man’s upper body appeared in the video, but his face was obscured above the nose. "Your son is in our hands. We hope you will cooperate," the man said before the video abruptly ended. Jiang Yu, terrified that the kidnappers might harm her son, dared not contact the police and instead waited for the kidnappers to make their demands. Two days later, exhausted both physically and mentally, Jiang Yu received another email. The body of the email instructed her to make a video call in two hours. Following their instructions, Jiang Yu made the video call exactly two hours later. But when she answered, there was no person on the other end—just a light green glass wall. After a while, a hand appeared on the glass, and began writing something: “Hand over the Forbidden Fruit Project.” Once the message was written, the hand wiped it off the glass. ... That day, Jiang Yue Sheng was working on the assembly line in the workshop. His foreman walked over to him and called him over, so he stopped what he was doing and followed the foreman to the side. The foreman told him that there was a shortage of workers in the packaging section, and the section leader wanted to send him there. Jiang Yue Sheng had already become somewhat tired of the assembly work and was looking for a change of environment, so he immediately agreed. Thus, Jiang Yue Sheng was transferred from the assembly section to the packaging section. In the packaging section, he was assigned to operate a forklift to load goods onto a ship. Operating a forklift wasn’t particularly complicated; it was just a matter of using the forklift to move the packaged boxes from the warehouse to the dock and waiting for the ship to arrive before loading them onto it. Although he was only fifteen and had never operated a forklift before, he had always enjoyed hands-on work since he was young. He had even mastered complicated robots. So learning to operate this small forklift wasn’t a challenge for him. Under his foreman’s guidance, he mastered the basic skills of operating a forklift in less than an hour. Seeing how quick and intelligent the boy was, the section leader decided to keep him. "You can stay here and work with me!" the section leader told Jiang Yue Sheng. Then, with a stern face, he added, "But don’t even think about running away! The forklift driver before you tried to escape by boat. He was caught and thrown into the sea to feed the fish!" Jiang Yue Sheng’s heart skipped a beat when he heard the section leader’s words! Actually, the moment he first saw the dock, he had already started thinking about how to escape. He thought to himself, “Since a ship is coming, there must be a chance to sneak aboard and escape with it.” However, after a day of loading goods onto the ship with the forklift, he abandoned the idea of escaping by ship. Throughout the entire process, he was the only forklift driver working, but there were three people keeping an eye on him. One was at the ship’s hatch, another on the dock, and the third was in a lookout tower above. Whenever he lifted a box from the dock with the forklift, the guard on the dock would raise a flag, and only when the lookout guard waved a flag would he be allowed to drive the forklift toward the ship. Once he unloaded the box in the ship’s hold, the guard at the hatch would wave the flag to signal the lookout guard. Once the loading was complete, the guards at the hatch and on the dock would lead Jiang Yue Sheng away from the dock. It was an almost foolproof surveillance system, no wonder the previous forklift driver had been caught. That day, Jiang Yue Sheng was free for a while because there were no ships arriving for loading. He stood by the warehouse entrance, killing time. A security guard walked over and called him, asking if he could help with some work. Bored and not daring to refuse, he followed the guard to the dormitory and dining area.
