The bond was no longer a pull.
It was a need.
Constant. Burning.
I woke up every morning with Damian's mouth on my skin, his hands exploring like he couldn't get enough.
And I couldn't either.
That morning, sunlight filtered through the heavy curtains — real sunlight, because my blood had given him the ability to tolerate it for short periods.
He was on top of me before I fully opened my eyes.
"Good morning," he murmured, lips trailing down my neck.
I arched into him. "Is it?"
His fangs grazed my collarbone.
"Best morning in centuries."
I laughed, but it turned into a moan when his hand slipped between my thighs.
He knew exactly how to touch me — slow, teasing, until I was begging.
"Please..."
He entered me in one smooth thrust.
We moved together, urgent, desperate.
His fangs sank into my neck as he thrust deeper.
The pleasure was blinding — the bite amplifying everything.
I came hard, nails raking his back.
He followed, growling my name against my skin.
After, he licked the wound closed, kissing it gently.
"I could do this forever," he said.
"Me too."
But forever had a price.
The council called again that afternoon.
Elena on the phone.
"We need more blood. The effect is fading."
Damian tensed. "No."
"It's not a request, King. Bring her tonight. Or we come for her."
He hung up.
I touched his arm. "What do we do?"
"We fight."
But that night, as we prepared, the hunger hit me.
Not for food.
For him.
I pushed him against the wall, kissing him fiercely.
He growled, lifting me.
We didn't make it to the bedroom.
The kitchen counter worked fine.
His shirt ripped under my hands.
My dress hiked up.
He took me there — hard, fast, possessive.
Biting my shoulder as I came.
When we finished, panting, he rested his forehead against mine.
"You're going to be the death of me."
"Or the life of you."
He laughed, but his eyes were serious.
"Tonight, we face them."
I nodded.
But as we dressed for the council, I felt the power stirring.
My blood wasn't just changing him.
It was changing me too.
And I was starting to crave the darkness.
Just a little.
