Alexei huffed through the phone, his voice sharp with urgency. “Calm down. First, smell it. You know how I taught you to detect poison-laced food. If there’s anything off, you’ll catch the scent.”
I exhaled shakily, forcing my breathing to slow as I brought the box up to my nose. My hands trembled slightly, but I focused, inhaling carefully. Omegas were naturally more sensitive to smells, a biological trait that Alexei was the one to teach me about.
I had spent months helping Alexei with herbal medicine, identifying subtle differences in scents. If there was even a trace of something foreign in the orders he made and received for special clients, I would know.
