Evangeline’s POV: I blinked my eyes open slowly, the ceiling above me unfamiliar, too pristine and high compared to the hospital room I'd last remembered. Instant panic gripped me like a vice, squeezing all the air from my lungs. Where— Where was I? My heart thundered painfully against my ribs, and I jolted upright in bed, only to immediately hiss in pain, my battered body protesting the sudden movement. I wasn't in the hospital gown anymore.
