A sharp pain rippled through my body, stealing the breath from my lungs. My vision blurred as an agonizing heat crawled up my spine, wrapping around my ribs like a vice.
I had taken the pill exactly fifteen minutes ago, just as planned. Alexei had assured me it would work, that it would make it seem like I had lost the baby without actually harming it. But this… this pain was unbearable. My entire body trembled as sweat beaded at my temples, my breathing ragged as if my chest were caving in on itself.
