Which was the only reason Alexei ever got involved with Donatello Rossi. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have given a damn about the Mafia or his family’s generational wealth.
Once upon a time, he had dreamed of being just a doctor. A normal life, free from crime, blood, and underground dealings. But that dream had died along with his sister.
My chest tightened at the thought.
If I wasn’t wrong… his niece would be turning thirteen this year.

The thought made my stomach sink.
I swallowed hard, trying to shake the uneasy feeling in my chest. There was still hope. That little girl could be out there somewhere, waiting for someone to find her.
