Kenji shook his head, exasperated. “She keeps saying ‘bad copcorn.’ What the hell is a copcorn?” He hissed, his frustration palpable.
I scoffed. Of course she wouldn’t eat. Not after what had happened earlier—after I had basically made her throw up the ones she had eaten before.
A bitter pang twisted in my chest. Had I just scarred my own kids for life? Had I ruined their favorite food forever?
But I wasn’t going to regret it. Not even for a second.
Their safety was above everything.
Orion, who had been silent until now, finally got up. His movements were slow, deliberate, but the air in the room shifted the moment he rose. Without a word, he walked out, shutting the door behind him with a quiet but final click.
I let out a breath I hadn’t realized I was holding.
