The pack gathered beneath the full moon, its silver glow painting every wolf in shades of power and fear. Selene stood at the edge of the clearing, her body trembling from visions that consumed her. Whispers rippled — betrayal, prophecy, Moonborn. Damian stepped forward, his presence commanding silence. The Alpha of the Blackthorn Pack was carved from dominance, his dark eyes sharp, his jaw set. Every wolf bowed instinctively, but Selene felt only the sting of his rejection. “She is not my Luna,” Damian declared, his voice echoing across the clearing. Gasps erupted. Wolves turned toward Selene, their eyes wide, their whispers sharp. The bond pulsed painfully, cruel and unrelenting. “She is weak,” Damian continued, cold and calculated. “Unworthy of the Alpha’s side.” Selene’s breath caught. The words sliced through her like claws. Her wolf stirred, restless, defiant. She lifted her chin, silver eyes flashing beneath the moonlight. “You can deny me,” she whispered, trembling yet strong, “but you cannot deny fate.” The pack fell silent. Her words carried weight heavier than any blade. The prophecy whispered again: Moonborn will unite or destroy. Damian’s jaw tightened. For a moment, his mask cracked, the bond betraying his own words. His eyes softened, just for a heartbeat, before fury reclaimed them. “You are nothing,” he growled. “Without me, you are nothing.” Selene’s wolf roared inside her, silver light flickering at the edges of her vision. She felt the forest stir, the wind carrying her defiance. “I am Moonborn,” she said, louder now, her voice echoing across the clearing. “And I will not be broken.” The council’s eyes narrowed, whispers sharp. They saw her as both threat and weapon. Selene felt their gaze pierce her, calculating, plotting. And in the shadows, unseen, the rival Alpha watched. His golden eyes gleamed with satisfaction. Damian’s denial was the crack he had been waiting for. Selene’s body trembled, visions flooding her mind — fire, blood, wolves kneeling, Damian bleeding beneath a crimson moon. The prophecy demanded its price. Her knees buckled. She collapsed, the earth rising to meet her. The last thing she heard was Damian’s voice, raw and unguarded. “Selene…” Darkness claimed her. ---
