The Panic
You are never too old for sibling rivalry.
According to Mavis, Fanny is a sister no woman would want. She is ten years younger with a confidence that never wavers and a mother who believes in her 110 percent. And now, thanks to the whole Birthday Dad incident, Mavis talks of little else. She seems obsessed with Fanny, and it has come as quite a shock.
Mavis had always been the sort of woman who made the most of things. Sure, we had had our differences, but she seemed to me to be a strong, robust sort of woman who was happy to hold her own corner with anyone. We had performed many times together and she was always the first to give any heckler a mouthful. She took snatch from no one and didn’t care what people thought of her.
