CHAPTER TWO

Amber's pov I rose to my feet as the clank of metal against metal caught my attention. It was well past midnight now, if the stillness and quiet above the dungeon was anything to go by. I stood stiffly as the door creaked open and I waited. Before I saw him I had already sensed his presence. My wolf perked up within me as Alpha Arron stepped into the cell. What was he doing here? Was he here to do away with me, to keep me silent? “Alpha,” I muttered as I bowed to him in respect but he didn't respond. He walked until he stopped right in front of me. My heart hammered against my ribcage as his eyes scanned my face. What was he searching for? I ignored my wolf's whining within me to close the little gap between us. “I can feel it,” he announced and my eyes widened just a little further. Was he saying what I think he was? “You can feel the pull?” I asked desperately and he nodded. I let out a loud sigh of relief as the heaviness in my chest began to dissipate. “I was so confused when my wolf announced that you were my mate. The words just left my lips before I could stop them and I-” the words rolled off my tongue as I tried to get everything out but Alpha Arron silenced me with his lips on mine. My eyes bulged and I stiffened for a second before I closed my eyes and leaned into him. Alpha Arron's kiss was so slow and tender, something I wasn't aware he was even capable of but I couldn't help but feel something was incomplete. Does this mean he accepted me as his mate? No matter how hard I tried to shut down my thoughts, they just wouldn't switch off. “What happens now?” I asked when Alpha Arron finally pulled away and stared at me with darkened eyes. My wolf longed for him, naturally because he was my mate, but something about his touch just…didn't feel right. Alpha Arron's eyes hardened before he stepped away from me. “Do you really think I would have an omega as my mate? As my pack’s Luna?” His face was blank and cold. “But the moon goddess has already fated us to be,” I pointed out. “Well then, let me rectify that little issue. I, alpha Arron, reject you as my mate.” He announced and I felt a sharp pain lodged in my chest. My wolf howled in anguish and my knees gave out from under me as I crumbled to the floor. “Don't do this, please.” I begged him as tears pricked the back of my eyes. “Like I said in the hall, I'm feeling generous this evening so I'm going to give you a head start.” Alpha Arron's expression morphed into something dark and cynical. “What do you mean?” I asked in a small voice. “Mia asked me to kill you, do away with you so you can never speak again but I've decided to give you a chance to leave. You are banned from this pack and you have exactly five minutes to flee the pack premises before I send out the warriors to hunt you down and kill you on site.” Alpha Arron explained with eerie calm and I felt as though my whole world was crashing down. “Your time starts now,” he finished off with an evil smirk. My feet acted on their own accord and I stumbled out of the dungeon, ignoring alpha Arron's mocking laughter following after me. I managed to escape the pack house and I instantly transformed into my wolf as I sprinted to the borders. Loud howls echoed into the night and my heart dropped. I should have known Arron wouldn't keep his word. He had sent the warriors to kill me, I never really did have any chance of survival. I pushed my wolf as hard as I possibly could as I felt the warriors drawing nearer. I let out a sigh of relief as I crossed the borders but confusion clouded my features as the wolves kept on chasing after me. Alpha Arron had sent them to kill me. He was never planning on letting me live. My wolf took over and I couldn't say how many miles we ran as adrenaline pumped within me. A body slammed into mine and I immediately crashed to the floor. The warriors circled me and I growled in warning as I rose to my feet. How the hell was I going to get out of this? My eyes darted around as I tried to find an escape route. One of the warriors jumped at me but I manoeuvred my way around him and without breaking my stride, I pounced on the smallest wolf. Before he could recover, I broke into a sprint and the warriors growled as they chased after me. After a while, I realized the warriors were nowhere to be seen and I slowed down. Was this some kind of trap? What were they planning? My wolf was on high alert as we trudged around. A twig snapped and my eyes snapped in it's direction but it was already too late. A large wolf pounced on me and I struggled underneath it's paws as it's claws dug into my shoulders. Several others came out of nowhere and my heart hammered in my chest as I stared at the large wolves. Wolves aren't meant to be that big, there was only one species which were that big … My eyes bulged as I realized they were lycans and I cursed my luck. No wonder the warriors had let me go and given up on their chase. No, it couldn't possibly be. I couldn't have possibly landed on Lycan territory…right? “What is a rogue doing on our pack grounds?” One of the lycans asked and my heart dropped. Maybe I really was destined to die tonight…
