Daisy's words hit me like a lightning strike.
I looked down numbly at the slight curve of Daisy's stomach.
She was carrying my fiancé's child.
The strength left my body so suddenly that I had to brace myself against the wall. I looked at Larry and let out a cold, mocking laugh.
"And now you still want to tell me you don't have feelings for her?"
The guilt on Larry's face disappeared fast. What replaced it was irritation. Like he'd finally stopped pretending.
"Fine I admit it. I caught feelings for Daisy too. But can you really blame me for everything? In your world, your mom always came first. Then your career. Was I ever your priority? You ignored me for years. Daisy was the one who stayed by my side. She was the one there for me all the time. Is it really that strange that I got attached to her? And besides, we've been together for five years already. People get distracted sometimes. That's normal."
Larry stood there red-faced and emotional, acting like he'd only made some small mistake while trying to make me feel responsible for it somehow.
And just like that, every beautiful memory we had built together finally fell apart.
I slowly shook my head. "There's no fixing this anymore. The moment you betrayed me, we were already over."
Then I turned and walked away.
But Daisy suddenly ran after me, crying.
"Freda, please don't leave... For your happiness, I can leave this city. I'll go far away and never come back, I swear..."
Before she could finish, I violently shoved her hand away. I brushed at my sleeve in disgust.
"Stop acting innocent. I don't believe a single word out of your mouth."
"Ah!" Daisy suddenly screamed.
Her body slammed into the corner of a table, and her face instantly turned pale.
"Daisy!" Larry rushed over in panic and barely caught her before she collapsed.
Daisy trembled weakly in his arms, clutching his shirt sleeve tightly, her face full of fear.
"Larry... I'll be okay... But I'm carrying your baby. I can't let anything happen to him..."
