For the next few hours, Desiree impressed the men with her skills at poker but the real jackpot was the information. As the liquor flowed, the men talked.
Jimmy was divorced, his life a sad cliché. He’d made a fortune as a banker and had married a beautiful, younger woman. She’d cheated on him and had received a sizeable amount of his money in the divorce. He spent his free time, except for a few nights at the Club, taking care of his elderly father. Jimmy may not be attractive but he was a nice, safe man and would be an excellent repeat customer. He wouldn’t admit it, but he wanted the steadiness of a girlfriend. She could give him that in a pretend way.
