Changjin (Chosin) Reservoir, Democratic People’s Republic of (North) Korea
At dusk, Mike Stokey crawled out of the snow-hole on the high ridge north of the Chosin Reservoir, and focused his binoculars on the lights of the little settlement in the valley between his perch and the hydroelectric plant he’d been observing for the past two days. The rumble in his stomach told him he’d have to risk sending Lee back down there tonight. He’d feel safer sending someone else on a second trip to buy food from the villagers, but there was nobody else. He certainly couldn’t go, and his only other option was buried under a ton of snow and ice in the mountains to the west. The avalanche that killed one of his two NK assets and buried their only radio beyond retrieval almost made Mike scrub the mission,
