“You must get married to him at all costs and nothing will change my mind.”
Selena's father shouted at her as she came back home.
Standing in the ingress of the lounge after being cheated on by her boyfriend and her sister, one more thing added to her misery.
“Why do I have to get married to a stranger because of your debt?”, she yelled nonchalantly.
Before she could speak again, a burning slap stunned her. “How dare you talk back to me?” he raised his voice at her.
Selena held her face, her eyes grew hot with hate and anger as she looked at her father.
“You are leaving tomorrow.” He stormed out of the living room, followed by his wife.
Ivy, her sister, passed by her with a quick disgusted snort.
Halsey let out a loud cry in despair. The sorrow she felt was almost too much to bear.
Earlier today, she had walked in on her boyfriend with her sister in her boyfriend's house. She confronted him immediately but he did not deny it, and she comes back to hear that she has been married off to a total stranger? Just to pay off her father's debt? She felt her life get shattered in front of her in a day.
She shook her head, she could not live an unhappy life just for her family to live happily.
She stood up with determination and walked into her room.
The night passed on quickly, with Selena wide awake, unable to sleep. She stayed awake watching the sun set and the sun rise till the next morning.
The next day, two cars drove in, stopping in front of her house. Her father went out to welcome them as her mother brought her outside.
One of the men handed over an envelope to her father. Her father looked at the envelope in greed. Selena's eyes widened in realization as she rushed to her father.
“I thought you married me off to pay off your debt?”she questioned her father.
He pushed her off, “we needed money too. Besides, there is no difference, we would have still married you off.”
“You did not marry off, you sold me off just for money.” She yelled, her eyes blazing in anger and hatred.
The men from the car ran up to her and dragged her from her father.
“You are going to regret this, you will all regret this”, the raw fire of hate blazed in her voice as she was pushed roughly into the car with the car driving off.
Ivy's eyes were full of satisfaction as she watched her sister being driven out. Now she could live happily without feeling inferior and she could be with the man she loves.
****************
The car arrived at a hotel in an hour. The men came out of the car with Selena as they entered the building. Selena struggled to get away but they held on tightly to her. They took her to a private room where a plumpy man sat at the center, smoking. His eyes lit up as he saw her. She was pushed inside as the door closed.
“You look stunning my dear”, his eyes roaming all over her. “Come over here”, he beckoned on her as he patted the space beside him.
Selena immediately felt disgusted, almost throwing up at the thought of his hands on her.
He stood up and dragged her to him, making her sit on his legs. She struggled but he held her firmly.
He caressed her face, irritating Selena the more. “Your skin is so smooth, it's worth my money.” pale and feverish, she turned away in disgust.
When she couldn't take it anymore, she spoke up, her voice shaky. “Can you excuse me for a moment, I need to use the toilet.”
He hesitated at first, thinking she might want to run away. Selena knew what he was thinking, so she smiled at him to reassure him.
“I'm not running away, I really need to use the toilet.”
“Don't think of running away, my men are everywhere.” He let her go, signaling one of his men to follow her.
Her heart hammered in her chest as she walked quickly towards the bathroom. She entered the bathroom and waited anxiously, looking for an opportunity to run away. She peeped out and saw the guard waiting in front of the female restroom.
She looked out from the window and saw that she was not that high from the ground. She immediately opened the window, ready to jump down. Just then, the guard opened the door to the toilet and saw her about to jump.
Her breath caught in her throat as she jumped down. She landed, twisting her ankle in the process. She heard footsteps of men running towards her direction. Frightened beyond measure, she ran.
“She couldn't have gone far, search the whole hotel for her. Don't come back till she's found.”
Selena heard the barking orders. She ran with her twisted ankle till she reached a room on the last floor.
She got into the room and closed the door immediately.
“Who are you?” a deep voice asked behind her.
Selena stared at the man in black bathrobe, feeling spellbound under his gaze. He had a sleek, powerful build and had gorgeous brown eyes. She blinked as she heard footsteps running towards the room.
She ran to him and held his hands, “please help me, don't allow those men take me away, please.” She pleaded, her eyes bulged in fright.
Immediately the door opened as the man in front of her stood in front of her, his large build covering her.
One of the guards stepped forward, “we are looking for a lady in a silver gown, average height. She ran towards this direction.”
“Haven't seen her”, he spoke in a blunt style to the men.
The men looked behind him. He looked straight at the men, “my wife gets shy when she sees a lot of people.”
The men hesitated before finally leaving. He locked the door after they left. He turned towards the lady in his room. She walked to him, tears In her eyes.
“Thank you for helping me out.”
His gaze was level, direct, cold and seemed to bore into her. He slowly walked up to her, his gaze never leaving her face.
“Don't you think I deserve more than a thank you?”
She looked at him confused, “what else do you want? I have no money on me, I have nothing to offer.”
The corners of his mouth turned up, “why don't you marry me?”
