An heir

The corners of his mouth turned up, “why don't you marry me?” Her eyes widened in shock as she took a step back. “Wh…what do you mean?” He walked past her and sat on the bed. “I helped you escape from whatever you were running from and you could repay my kindness by marrying me.” She just stared at him, speechless. She had just escaped from a forced marriage only to land in another forced marriage. “Why would you want to do that? You don't even know me”, she said to him. “I need an heir”, he spoke sincerely. “And it doesn't matter if I know you or not. All I need is to just do some medical tests on you to see if you are fit. After you have given birth to an heir for me, I will let you go.” “And if I don't accept to marry you?” “I'll withdraw my kindness and hand you over to those guys personally.” Selena pressed her lips together, conflicted. “And I have no time to decide?” He shook his head, “no.” She heard footsteps of men running past the room again. She closed her eyes and made her decision. “I'll go with you.” “We need to carry out medical tests before anything else.” She nodded in understanding. “How will I get out without getting spotted?” He threw his clothes at her, “wear this immediately, we're leaving now. You can change up in the bathroom.” She took the clothes and went into the bathroom and changed up. She came out and saw him already dressed up. The doorbell rang and a man in a suit came in. “Your car is outside sir”, the man in a suit spoke, his head bowed. “Thank you Alfred.” Alfred took them to where the car was packed. “Take us to the hospital”, the man spoke to Alfred. Selena turned to the man beside her, “can I at least know your name?” “Lucas.” He waited for him to ask for her name but he did not. “I'm Selena”, she said when he did not ask. The medical tests were carried out and she was declared fit for child bearing. “You will live with me till the child is born” he told her. Selena's heartbeat raced as she thought of everything that had just happened in the past few hours. She knew she had no choice then to follow Lucas, he was her only hope for survival. “When will we get married?”, she asked him. “Let’s get the medical tests done first, everything else comes later.” He took her to his villa and showered her room to her. “I've never lived with anyone before and I hope you would behave appropriately without invading my personal space.” He spoke coldly. “And always remember that you are only here to give birth to an heir for me, nothing else, so know your place here.” He walked out of the room after speaking, giving her no chance to speak. She sighed deeply as she sat on the bed and admired the room. Living here till she gives birth does not seem all that bad, as long as she is fed and clothed. She just hopes that her father won't find her and drag her back to that disgusting man. *************** Selena's father, Mr George sat with his family celebrating their fortune. “You did the right thing honey by selling that girl off, look at the amount of money we got from that man”, his wife said. “Yes dad, at least now, you and mom can use the money to take good care of me now”, Ivy said smiling. The door to the house opened immediately as men in black walked in. George and his wife stood up in alarm as Simon, the man they sold Selena to, walked in furiously. “Where is your daughter?”, he asked in rage. George narrowed his eyes, “I don't understand. We sent her to you as you requested earlier this morning.” Simon slammed his fist on the table, startling George and his family. “Don't play those sick games with me George. Your daughter is not with me.” George exchanged glances with his wife, “we..we don't know where she is, she did not come here.” Simon pointed his finger at him, “I give you three days George, three days. At the end of three days, if your daughter is not brought to me, you will be left with two choices.” He looked from him to his wife and then to Ivy. “You either pay up your debt and the money I gave to you, or you hand over your other daughter.” Ivy looked at her father in fear, “you can't give me to him dad.” Her mother held her hand to reassure her and put her at ease. “As you know, I'm a man of little patience”, Simon said. George walked to him and pleaded, “please don't be so harsh on us, we really don't know where Selena went to. We don't have enough money to pay you and Ivy is our only child with us now.” Simon shook him off, “three days, or else….” He stormed out followed by his men, slamming the door behind them. His wife collapsed on the chair, feeling exhausted. She looked at her husband, “what do we do now? We don't have enough to pay him off.” Ivy knelt beside her father, “please don't let him take me away, I already have a boyfriend. Please don't marry me off.” George remained silent, releasing only a heavy sigh. “Where do you think Selena ran off to? She has no friends to run to and knows no one.” Ivy's expression tightened as she heard Selena's name. Even when she is about to be sold off, the first name her father mentions is Selena, not her. The only person he is worried about is Selena, not her. Who cares if Selena runs away? Just as long as she does not come back, she's happy with it. “That's the question none of us can answer right now. Let me try calling her”, his wife Elena said. She tried calling but her phone was unreachable. “It's unreachable”, she said. George had a pinched, tension-filled expression on his face. “We only have three days, so we must find her, no matter what.” “What if we don't find her?”Ivy asked her father. “Then we might have to marry you off, we don't have enough money to pay him.”
