Engagement

Selena sat by the pool behind the villa, her mind running wild with different thoughts. She had decided to start a new life away from her family, though her future still seemed unsure to her. After Lucas had dropped her at the villa, she has not set her eyes on him again. She just stayed in the villa with the servants, not doing anything. She heard footsteps from behind her walking towards her and she turned to see an attractive lady walk towards her, looking annoyed. The lady narrowed her eyes at Selena, “and who are you? What are you doing here?” Selena knew that for the servants to allow her in, she must be a relative or close friend of Lucas. “I'm…”, she paused, not knowing if to introduce herself as Lucas’ wife. “I'm a friend of Lucas.” “Lucas has no female friends. And even if you were, why would he bring you to his private villa?”, the lady questioned with squinted eyes. Before Selena could speak, Lucas walked in, “she's with me.” Selena sighed in relief as she saw him. Lucas stood beside her, as if to further prove his words were true. “Why are you here Rhea?”, he asked the lady. Rhea looked at Selena in disbelief, “you have no female friends Lucas, and you don't bring anyone to your private villa, so who is she?” “If you have nothing else to say, please leave”, Lucas said, not sparing her a glance. Rhea's eyes grew hot with anger, “you are asking me to leave your villa, yet allowing this thing to stay?” He narrowed his eyes in annoyance, “and who do you think you are to walk into my house without my approval?” “I am your fiancée Lucas”, she yelled. “Why would I need approval to come into your house?” Lucas took Selena's hands as he walked out with her. “Throw her out.” He ordered the guards who stood by as he walked into the house. Selena followed him quietly, she could hear Rhea scream as the guards led her out of the house. Lucas stopped walking and turned to her, “go to your room, I won't be back for a while.” Selena nodded as he walked out of the house. If he already had a fiancée, why would he ask her to give birth to an heir for him? She had only started a new life here and she had already gotten herself an enemy. She let out a heavy sigh as she dwelled in her thoughts. ***************** Lucas drove to the Hanson's family mansion in annoyance. He entered the mansion as the servants bowed to him as he walked by. “Lucas”, an elegant woman in her early fifties, called out happily. “Haven't seen you in a while, what are you doing in the mansion?” Lucas looked past her, “where is dad?” She frowned, “Is anything wrong? Your face is gloomy.” She knew he wouldn't just come here without any reason and she knew that something was wrong. “Where is dad, I need to speak to him.” She pointed towards the study room, “he's over there.” He walked past her towards the study room. He got in and saw his father reading with his glasses on. “I want to break off the engagement.” His father kept on reading quietly, ignoring him. Lucas walked closer to him, “I'm talking to you father.” His father looked at him, annoyed. “Is that why you came here”, he asked him coldly. “Why else would I come here?”, he asked him flatly. “If you are done asking me those foolish questions, you can leave.” “I have a woman with me that will give birth to a son for me. That is why I need you to break the engagement between our family and the Williams.” His mother who stood listening to all these, ran to him, “Lucas..” Hanson stared at his son, “How did I end up having an unfilial son like you?” He raised his voice at him, “when you were involved in an accident years ago, Rhea saved you selflessly and all she asks for is this engagement, and now you want to break it?” His mother turned to him, “why would you ask for such a thing?” Lucas’ voice remained indifferent as he spoke, “I have a woman with me that will give birth to a child for me.” “Why would you bring another woman home when you are already engaged Lucas, why?”, his mother asked, her eyebrows drawn together. Lucas remained silent, not giving any explanation. “The engagement still stands, and it will never be broken, no matter what you say or do.” Hanson stood up and looked at his son, his expression tightening. “As for the woman you say you have at home, take her back to where you took her from. The child you plan on having from her, will only end up an outcast, never an heir.” He walked out as soon as he finished speaking. “You should listen to your father, having that woman with you will only complicate things for you. You can have an heir from Rhea—” Lucas walked out before she could finish speaking. She sighed heavily as she watched his leave. Lucas had always done things his own way, but the only thing he cannot control is the engagement. She wondered about this strange woman that Lucas wants to protect so much when he had never done such before. Lucas walked out of the house, annoyed. He thought of the accident years ago that almost killed him. He knows that he owes his life to Rhea, but not marriage. His father had made the promise of marriage between them when he found out about Rhea, and now he can't do otherwise. He picked his phone and made a call as he drove, “I'm going over to the hotel, I want to see you there.” He drove to the hotel and got in to see his friend with ladies all over him. Lucas sat down across him, ignoring the girls that looked at him with lust. Ben noticed that something was wrong with his friend. He waved off the ladies who left him reluctantly. “You seem angry”, Ben pointed out as he poured himself a drink. Lucas poured himself a drink too, “I went to meet my father today.” “Did something bad happen?”, Ben asked. “He refused to break off my engagement with Rhea.” “Why do you want the engagement broken now, you have been engaged with her for years and you never made a fuss about it. What changed your mind?” Ben looked at him closely, “or have you fallen in love with another woman?”
