Anthony had not forgotten about Claire. She was always on his mind even as rumors that Big Tony had a hand in Bernie Caruso"s murder began circulating in the tight community of Italian crime families. It kept Anthony busy with managing the restaurant, finding avenues to wash the loot that came in through the back door, and making nice with Bernie"s two sons. They had taken over management of the Caruso interest.
Bernie had never been the brightest of mafiosos and his sons were cut from the same cloth. Still, it took Anthony many soothing conversations, and a few outright lies, to steer them away from discovering Big Tony"s involvement in the senior Caruso"s demise.
