The rain hadn’t stopped since dawn, turning the city into a reflection of itself. Cade moved through the crime scene with a quiet intensity, the kind that made junior officers get out of his way. The body had been removed hours ago, but the scent of antiseptic and something metallic still clung to the air. Hale’s office was pristine — too pristine.
