As Amelia paid the taxi driver and stepped out of the car, she couldn't help but feel anxious. She was running late for breakfast and didn't want to disappoint her in-laws. The walk from the main road to her house was only five minutes, but every second counted. She hurriedly purchased a newspaper from a nearby stand and quickened her pace.
As she entered her home, chaos greeted her. Chairs and cushions were scattered all over the living room, and her father-in-law was searching for his glasses. Despite her own desires to relax, she put the needs of her family first and attended to each member's requests with care and efficiency. Amelia calmly gathered the chairs and placed all the cushions neatly on the sofa before handing her father-in-law the newspaper.
"Here's your newspaper, Dad," she said, handing it over to him. "And Auntie, your tea is almost ready."
"Thank you, my dear," her father-in-law replied, taking the newspaper and settling into his chair.
She went straight to the kitchen and began preparing tea for her aunt-in-law. As the milk can was passed to her sister-in-law, Amelia felt a sense of satisfaction that everyone was being taken care of.
Olivia watched as her mother moved around the house, never seeming to tire or complain. "Mom, can I help you with anything?" she offered.
Amelia smiled at her daughter's offer. "Thank you, sweetheart, but you have school today. Just focus on that for now."
However, Amelia's moment of peace was short-lived.
As she started on the laundry, her brother-in-law approached her. "Hey, Amelia, do you think you could iron my shirt for me?" he asked, holding it out to her.
"Sure, no problem," she replied, taking it from him.
Although Amelia was already behind schedule, she couldn't refuse the request. She had her own reasons for never saying no to anyone in the house.
Olivia couldn't help but feel frustrated. Why did everyone in the house always rely on her mother to do everything? When would they start taking care of her for a change?
But despite her own misgivings, she knew that her mother would never stop putting the needs of her family first. And as she watched her mother tirelessly working to keep everything running smoothly, she felt a deep sense of admiration and gratitude towards her.
As she passed her mother-in-law's room, she handed her the prescribed medication and took a moment to check on her. Her mother-in-law was frail and needed constant care, but Amelia never complained. She loved her family and would do anything to keep them happy.
Her day had only just begun. She did the laundry, prepared breakfast, and even managed to get started on lunch. She ironed all the clothes that were left undone by her sister-in-law and made sure the house was clean and tidy.
Through it all, Amelia's daughter, Olivia, watched in admiration. She knew her mother worked tirelessly and often felt guilty that she wasn't able to help out more. As Amelia went about her day, Olivia made a promise to herself that she would do whatever it takes to make her mother's life a little easier.
It was clear to Olivia that her mother never stopped moving, never stopped taking care of everyone around her.
And yet, for all her selflessness, Olivia knew that her mother often neglected her own needs. It was something that she would have to address eventually, but for now, she would simply be thankful for all that her mother did for their family.
