“Kael!”
His name ripped out of me like a scream, breaking through the echoing silence of Seraya’s dark fortress.
He was on his knees, one hand pressed against the deep s***h across his chest. Blood poured between his fingers, dark and shining in the silver light. His breath came shallow, ragged.
Seraya stood over him, calm, untouched, her blade gleaming faintly. The moonlight poured down through the crack in the ceiling, turning the blood on the floor into rivers of red light.
I crawled towards him, slipping in the slick of his blood. “Kael, stay with me.”
His head tilted, barely. The golden fire in his eyes flickered like a candle about to die. “Leah…”
My hands pressed against his chest, trying to stop the bleeding, but it kept coming, hot and thick, run
