My hands shook as I held Emma close. Her breathing was shallow, but steady now. She looked peaceful again, too peaceful, as though the strange words she had spoken had drained her completely. Kael stood at the edge of the clearing, his back to me, his golden eyes fixed on the forest where the light had been.
