"I don't understand Maggie. Why didn't dad and you tell me this all when I was younger?" I sighed, looking out at the fog that was now dissipating off the lake as the warm sun began to rise into the afternoon. We talked for hours. "Your mother was the daughter of the aphla and luna of the silver lake moon pack. She was born into warewolf royalty in a sense. Your mom was supposed to be the next luna , and your dad was supposed to be the next alpha of that pack. When your parents found out about your powers, they wanted to protect you from your own family who sought to use you.Your mother never did tell me who in her family wanted to turn you into and use you as a weapon." she took a deep breath and continued. "Your mother and father wanted nothing to do with that. So they ran, I met them along the road. Your father saved me from a very bad situation. It was a perfect timeing cause I was on the road alone. After the death of my mate." A sadness creeped into her eyes as she spoke. "I couldn't stay with the pack that killed him. After he was gone, my pack drove me out, I'd probably be dead if it weren't for your dad. It's the reason why I decided to stay for you and your father after tour mother's death. He was a wreck after your mother. Losing your mate is a terrible thing. You see, for a werewolf, when you lose your mate, there is a possibility it can kill them. It's like losing a part of your soul. They are a piece of you." her words trailed off as she seemed to be lost in a memory. We sat in silence for a while before she continued. She told me about the mate bond and her pack, and she told me what she had learned from my mother about her pack. my mother had sepected her brother was the one who sought to use me as a weapon, my own uncle. I had taken in so much information that I could feel a headache coming on. It was well into the afternoon as it was starting to get hot on this ledge that I did not realize was something like 100 feet above the lake. I had climbed a bloody mountain and chosen to sit on what a normal person wouldn't go near. I felt a smile creep onto my face as I closed my eyes and began to rub my temples. "Lilly....LILLY! are you even listening." Maggie voice had taken an irritated tone as she jabbed a finger at me. This is how she brought my attention back after I would drift off. "Yes, Maggie, I am listening. It's just a lot to take in. "....I say as I blow my cheeks out in exacerbation as I continue. "Why would dad not tell me this, I do understand that he felt like he was protecting me when I was little, I get it, but as I got older. What better way to protect me than to prepare me. Like you have. I am a monster that parents use to scare their kids.... " I threw my hands up in frustration. I stared out over the water as a lake loon called out crossed the water. It really was beautiful up here. You could almost see the whole lake from up here now that the fog had burned off in the early afternoon heat. Except the south side as it wrapped around the ledge we were perched on. Silver Lake was huge, but from up here, you realize just how big it really was. Seven miles long and five miles wide. From up here, you could see why people called it Silver Lake. The only time the water of this lake looked blue was at dawn. Once the sun touched it, a silver would shine off the water, giving it the appreance of liquid metal. Maybe it had something to do with the snow-covered mountain peaks to the north. You could almost see where Mine and Maggie's trap line was from here. Across the lake at the bottom of the north face peak at the bottom of the valley before it met the water. At some point, Maggie had taken my hand and was squeezing tightly. Pulling me from a daze, I turned to look at maggie, who now had tears rolling down her cheeks. " I wish I had never listened to your dad and told you all this when you turned Thirteenth I was going to, but your father made me promise that I would wait. I did try to prepare you the best way I knew how. I will continue to if you let me Lilly...I will always and forever love you like you are my own. let me guide you through it. I promise I will never keep another thing from you ever again. " The tears were stronger as she finished. I pulled her into a tight hug, we stayed in the embrace for a few moments before she pulled away to wipe her face on her sleeve. She smiled at me through puffy red eyes. Maggie had always been the mother and best friend I ever had. I smiled back at her, and we sat enjoying the view. An hour or two passed as maggie continued, and the early evening approached as the sun started to move across the sky. But by the time maggie was almost done, I had what I believed was a crash course in being some sort of freak. I guess Brad was right to say I was a freak. I still was having trouble believing it all. Werewolfs, the alpha, the pack, and being connected, the moon goddess; it sounded like a really good horror movie that I wanted to see, not live.
