Chapter 11Meeting Lila

CAIN'S POV
After getting off the phone with my niece Sonia, I mind-linked the rest of the family to meet at the family house.
"So why are we all here so early? Did Lucas try hooking up with another alpha's daughter again?" My older brother Matt asked while setting his coffee down on the dining table.
"No, he didn't... at least I don't think so," said Raven, my older sister and Lucas's mom.
I looked at my older brother Matt and smiled while saying, "Your daughter is coming home to visit."
He jumped up from his chair and said, "Sonia? My Sonia? The one who said I would have to break her legs to drag her back to visit. Is she coming home on her own?"
I stared at him for a second before saying, "Yes, and she's not coming alone."
He looked at me bewildered, which makes sense Sonia wasn't exactly a people person even when she lived here.
The rest of the family also looked shocked until my mother asked, "Is it her mate?"
At that second, all eyes turned on me, causing me to rub the back of my neck before shattering their hopeful eyes. "Not exactly, she asked me for a favor... she asked if we could house her friend and her friend's son for a while."
They all looked even more shocked hearing that, to the point Isabelle and her twin Iris asked, "She has friends? And one is coming here? To meet us?"
I looked at them and nodded before saying, "Sonia's friend is also human, so we are going to have to keep pack activities to a minimum in town. I had already sent out a link to Travis to inform the rest of the pack."
Judging from their faces, I could already guess what they were thinking.
My father stood up and asked, "Why are they coming here? I'm sure Sonia would know the dangers bringing a human here could bring?"
I looked at my dad and said, "I can't tell you why they're coming, but I can say Sonia pleaded with me and asked that all of us give her friend a warm welcome. So I'm counting on you all to help her. Sonia will be here in 3 days, but her friend will be here in a few hours."
At that moment, my mother jumped up. "In a few hours? You're telling me this now. I have to go get the cottage ready and sheets for the bed... Let's go, Isabelle, Iris, and Renae. We need to get it cleaned up."
I let out a breath watching my family leave to get on with the day, while I couldn't help but think how this little human would fit in with them.
I was in my office at the police station when I got a call from my father around noon.
"Sonia's friend Lila is here," he said in a worried tone.
"Oh? Why do you sound concerned? You think it's going to be a problem?" I said, now concerned.
"No... I may be old, but my wolf and I are still sharp. I can tell she's running from something. She feels like a stray cat that's been kicked to the curb too many times. Anyway, make sure you're here for dinner. Your mom wants to do something nice for Lila and her son Jax. He's a cute little fella. I took him to see the horses, and he practically jumped out of his skin in excitement."
I laughed, not believing my dad sounded so happy about having another kid on the ranch.
I stared at my phone for a second, wondering what the human Lila looked like for my father to sound so concerned for her. By the time I knew it was around 3pm I decided to head to the market to pick up a snack before checking on the patrol.
Once I got to the market, my wolf went haywire. He was practically bouncing around in my head.
"What's got you so excited that you're giving me a headache?" I asked him.
"I can sense something... something good... something sweet," my wolf Titan said.
My mind instantly went to my mate. Was she here? But wouldn't I have felt her instantly?
As I reached checkout, there was a woman standing there. I could tell she was worried as she kept glancing at the price and her money as the cashier scanned her items. As I got closer to her, I couldn't help but notice she was short and very plump. Normally, I try not to stare at people too often, but I couldn't take my eyes off her. My eyes raked down her body from her long black hair flowing down her back to her round butt and wide hips stretching the cloth of her jeans.
"I want to take a bite out of that ass," Titan said, abruptly bringing me out of my staring contest with her back. I could practically see him salivating at the mouth as we watched her. I sighed, rubbing my eyes before reaching my hand forward next to her.
"You can put it all on here," I said.
Once I said that she finally turned my way, her eyes darted all over my body before doming back to my face, and that's when I felt it-
"MATE," Titan screamed in my head.
My entire body felt like it was on fire being near her when I heard her trying to refuse my help in the tiniest voice. Just looking at her embarrassed face made me want to push her down and make my way with her in front of everybody.
"Do it. Show everyone she belongs to us," Titan said, sounding excited.
"Are you crazy? She'd probably cry and slap us if we tried," I said in my head, rolling my eyes at him.
"I bet her tears are as sweet as she smells," he said back.
This horny world, I swear he's going to be the reason our mate hates us.
I looked down at my mate's cute face and told her I was the sheriff just trying to help my residents. Eventually, she let me help her and walked away.
"What are you doing? She's getting away! Go after her! She's our mate!" Titan said, trying to claw his way out.
