LILA'S POV
"Sonia, I... I don't know where to go. He found us... I... he... Ann..." was all I could spit out through sobs. I had no idea if Sonia could understand me, but she did.
"Lila, I need you to breathe right now," she stated calmly. "Once you calm down, then we can talk about what we're going to do now, okay?"
I nodded my head at the phone like she could see, then let out a choked sob. "Yes."
I took 10 minutes before I could finally breathe normally, and my crying slowed down. Once I was calm enough, her first question was, "Did he see Jax?"
I said. "Yes, it was almost like he knew out of those 8 kids. He knew exactly which one was Jax."
Sonia took a long pause before saying, "This will get a little more tricky to hide then. You said Ann was the one who told him?"
I whispered and shouted through the phone, "Yes! I saw them talking at my house as if they'd known each other before. She had also mentioned that even Jax liked her present, even though she never turned up at the park."
Sonia hummed in agreement before saying, "Okay, I'll look into this, Ann. On the other hand, how is Jax? What did you tell him?"
I turned to look back at Jax's sleeping face in the backseat and then said, "I told him we were going on a birthday trip. He's sleeping now. I did my best not to lose my composure when Nathan was around."
I almost wanted to start crying again, so I bit my lip to hold it in.
"Don't worry, he won't find you again. Even if he does, you won't be alone this time," she said so confidently. I let out a little chuckle before asking what she meant by "I wouldn't be alone".
"Because I will be there. Let's see him just try dragging you away with me there. I could literally kick his ass. I just never did because you were..." She trailed off at the end. I knew what she wanted to say though, because I was foolishly in love with that monster.
I laughed in disgust before saying, "I thought you said it was more suspicious to be together?"
"Yeah, well, he still found you even without me being there. So who gives a f***k a now? Nobody is dragging my best friend and my godson anywhere."
"Okay, okay, Wonder Woman, now where are we going. I can't stay here in a parking lot off the highway."
She laughed, then said, "Okay, you said you're near Silver Lake, right? Just keep driving there. I have some family there. They should be able to put up somewhere until I get there."
I hesitated before saying, "Are you sure your family will be okay with this? I don't want to bring them trouble."
"Stop it right there," Lila Rivens. My family will be more than happy to help, plus, if they can beat some loser's ass. They would be willing to jump into this mess with us."
I couldn't help but get teary-eyed at that and said I would keep driving there. She told me her family home was a little outside the town called The Mendez Farm. She said I just had to go and ask Isabelle if she would help me get settled until she came, which would be in 3 days. She still had to settle everything with her job before coming down.
As I was driving towards this little town, I was nervous but also hopeful. My best friend, whom I hadn't seen in years, was going to be with me. It gave me such strength that I could keep fighting.
As I stared at the town sign, Silver Lake, I couldn't help but get butterflies in my stomach. Maybe from excitement or fear. Who knows. I would find out much later.

OTHER'S POV
I woke up at 5 in the morning and went to take a morning jog through the woods. As I reached the big beautiful lake with slight fog just above it. I took a deep breath, listening to the wind in the trees and the animals barely waking up. Just like that, my phone rang, breaking my quiet morning.
I looked down at the caller and saw the name of my baby niece. I let out a sigh wondering what crazy thing she was calling about now.
I picked up the phone to my ear.
"Why are you taking too long, Uncle? Are you getting old? I almost died just waiting for you to answer," she shouted through the phone.
I took a deep breath to remind myself I loved her before saying, "I'm out on my run before you decide to grace me with your annoying presence."
"Annoying? Annoying? Did you just call your favorite niece annoying?" She asked.
"You're my only niece, Sonia," I stated blankly. She paused for a moment before i could hear her cough, trying to compose herself.
"A... Anyway, I need you to do me a favor. Okay? For your favorite niece," she said so sweetly. I laughed as I started walking back before asking what it was. I stopped dead in my tracks when she said, "I need you to help me hide my human best friend and her son away from her abusive ex-fiancé."
I rubbed my eyes with my hand trying to figure out how she thought this was the best idea. I was about to say no when she said in the tiniest voice. "He used to beat her uncle. I could always see new bruises on her, but she always hid them. I could always smell fresh blood off her but i couldn't do anything to help her. Now she has her son, and I'm terrified about what will happen to that little boy if he gets them. Please, uncle, you're the only person who can help us."
It was the first time I heard my strong-willed niece sound so small. I told her I would help, that I would have Isabelle get everything ready for her friend.
"What's your friend's name again?" I asked just as I reached the porch of my house.
"Lila Rivens and her son's name is Jax. They should be there in 2 to 3 hours, so please be nice," she said before hanging up.
Lila Rivens, I don't know why, but that name had a shiver going down my back.
