(Rebecca's POV) We walk Luke to his car. The night is cool. The restaurant light spills onto the sidewalk behind us. Luke buttons his coat and turns to me. "Don't disappear again." "I won't." "I mean it, Rebecca. Six years was too long." He looks at Eric. "Keep her in the lab this time." "I'm trying," Eric says. "Try harder." Luke shakes Eric's hand, pulls me into one more hug — quick, firm — and opens his car door. "Professor." He turns. "Thank you. For dinner. For everything." He waves a hand.
