“About four years ago, after my firm became a little better known and thriving, Ken told me he wanted to level with me. He knew I was smart and that I knew something was fishy with TrendStats. He told me that TrendStats was his own personal company and his chairman knew nothing about it. He sold the research we did to TPDG’s media arm and some of their other clients as marketing insight and product development. So the company was really just a conflict of interest he didn’t declare to his boss.
