“Carey, I honestly don’t want to go out tonight, it doesn’t matter if I have been in Costa Rica for a week, I just don’t feel like going out.” Sasha Watt told her best friend over the phone, resting her head on a pillow as she stared at the night sky through the hotel window. “This isn’t how you do a vacation, Sasha!” Carey said from the other side of the line. “You don’t have to keep sulking because that asshole decided to cheat on you, you should go out there and have fun, find a new guy. You are only twenty-three---” “Oh, not this saying again, Carey…” Sasha narrowed her eyes. “Whereas, I am catching an early flight back tomorrow, I can’t.” “If I didn’t have a fashion show to plan, I would have been there with you. If you don’t go out and have fun, then don’t bother coming back!” Carey said and hung up before Sasha would protest. Sasha squeezed her eyes shut momentarily and lowered her phone, she refused to think about her ex-boyfriend and how painful the heartbreak was. Betrayal was the last thing she expected from a man she had loved and dated since high school. Recalling the event brought the threat of tears to Sasha’s eyes, but she took a deep breath and refused to cry. Crying was a punishment, a relief from the pain, but she doesn’t want that relief, she wanted to remain angry, to recall the pain, it was her only weapon against him. Her phone buzzed with a message, it was from her roommate, Carey. She opened it. ‘Send me a picture proof.’ For a moment, Sasha relented, she got to her feet and changed into a pale green dress to match the color of her eyes, she stared at her image on the mirror and let out a sigh. Pushing back a heavy lock of her tangled hair, she texted Carey that she was going to a bar for a couple of drink, and Carey sends a response that it also counts. Sasha walked into the bar on the beach, it was crowded, a lot of people filled the bar and she located a seat by the window, she was served a glass of tequila, as she sipped on it gently. She took a selfie and sent to Carey since she wanted proof, and Carey reacted with a winky face emoji. Sasha put down her phone, just before she could lift her glass to her lips she caught sight of a guy staring in her direction. He was striking handsome, as if the gods themselves had carved his looks, pale blue eyes, height that fit just like any model, sharp jaws, pointed nose, broad shoulders, straight legs covered in blue jean trousers, a refined look that fit in amongst the upper crust of society. This was the kind of men she knew Carey would want to scout. His gaze met hers, and for a moment time stood still, she saw a flash of emotion in his eyes that she could not interpret, and his lips spread into a smile, showing his white set of arranged teeth. Sasha blinked when he started walking toward her, she quickly lowered her gaze and swallowed hard, her heart raced in her chest, she dared not look up because she could feel his gaze on her. Shit, Sasha, now you went ahead and brought attention to yourself. She slowly reached for her glass to take a quick sip Her throat suddenly felt dry that she almost drowned the tequila to quench her taste. The moment she placed the glass down, he was already standing next to her table. “Hey…” He spoke softly and Sasha quickly raised her head. “Hey…” She said coolly. “Mind if I join you?” He asked, glancing at the chair across hers. She slowly shook her head and gestured him to sit, he flashed her a sweet smile that instantly attracted her, that she forget all about getting an early night before her flight tomorrow. “You’re new around here, are you visiting?” He asked, while signaling a waitress to bring drinks to the table. “Yeah…” Sasha responded, keeping her eyes low. Did he come over because he caught me staring back at him? She wondered, but turns out he was easy to talk to, and he also knew how to come up with engaging conversations. Perhaps Carey was right. She does need to go out. It’s been a week since she came to Costa Rica but she didn’t leave her hotel room, she had come here to keep a distance from her boyfriend after the breakup, but he never called once, not even a single message. He was not sorry for hurting her. “I didn’t catch your name.” He said softly after talking for hours and Sasha snapped out of her thoughts. “Sasha, Sasha Watts.” She told him softly and he leaned closer, his gaze held hers intensely. “That’s a beautiful name, for a beautiful lady like you.” His gaze darted to her lips and back to her eyes. Sasha didn’t look away from him, she was almost tipsy, but she knew what she wanted. She wanted to forget her ex, to forget his touch, to forget the taste of his lips. Wasn’t that the reason she came here, to be able to forget everything that reminding her of him? She leaned forward. “Do you want to…” she hesitated, “do you want to go back to my hotel room together?” She asked. What was there to be ashamed of? It was going to be the last time she sees him. Every guilty pleasure, everything that could happen here would say buried here in Costa Rica, and when she returns, she would move on with her life, no ex, no rebound, just a girl chasing her dream. He gave a small nod and Sasha rose to her feet, took his hand and left the bar to her hotel room. As she swiped her key card and stepped in, he pulled her to the wall and lowered his head to hers. She didn’t struggle against him. She wasn’t surprised at how forward he was either. This was the reason she brought him here. He pressed his lips to the sensitive skin of her neck and she moaned aloud, squeezing her eyes shut, ashamed of her wicked desires for this man. How could she ache for his kiss so much? She opened her lips to say something, but found herself leaning forward, reaching to meet him halfway. She threaded her fingers through his thick brown hair, as they moved toward the bedroom. Sasha groaned slightly, and slowly opened her eyes. Her gaze darted to the window, as bright morning lights flickered in through the white curtain, a smile lingered on her lips when she saw her clothes tossed on the ground in different places. She slowly turned, expecting to see the man she had just had an unforgettable night with, but blinked when she found the bed empty. Sasha jerked up and looked around the hotel room, there were no traces of him, she listened for shower, but the room was quiet and his clothes gone. She let out a sharp sigh and fell back on the bed. ‘Well, it was bound to be a one night stand.’ She muttered to herself and stretched, her gaze darting to the clock. “s**t, I have a flight to catch!” She jerked out of bed and hurry to prepare for her flight.
