It was time to pick a new name, a new destination. Usually she enjoyed this step, because she was always, always tired of being who she’d been, for however long it had lasted. She’d been Claire Fiordalisi for six months now, there was no reason she should be feeling so hesitant to give her up. No reason she should be reluctant to become someone else, to live the life meant for Joan or Erin or Samantha. The bus arrived and she was glad to put aside disturbing thoughts and focus on where she needed to go. A transfer and a two-block walk got her to her destination around lunchtime. Perfect.
